So Netflix recommended this series to me, and I gotta say, I'm not impressed, and may tell Netflix to not send me the rest of the series.
I just didn't find anything to like about it. It's not bad, certainly. The dubbing is good, the plot is fine, the animation is good, but there just isn't a lot going on. The characters aren't very well explained or developed, and even when they are they seem to fit typical anime stereotypes almost exactly. The episode seem disjointed, as though they were written by a large group without an eye towarRAB an overall goal or an overarching story, something that stuff like Outlaw Star and Fullmetal Alchemist have led me to demand.
The main character is a drag. She's supposed to be your typical great warrior with superpowers and a super suit and so on, but not only does she get upset the first time she kills someone (which is halfway into the series) but she's really not all that good at her warrior-ing. Seeing as she's not particularly attractive either, it's just hard to get into her, and seeing as she is often the only character around that really drags things down.
The story also has a tendency to stand still and let a narrator take over, and the narrator invariably says nothing of consequence. The whole thing just feels bland, and I find myself getting distracted and focusing on other things while the anime is on.
They also have a very limited nuraber of songs, and the theme song (which is nice, don't get me wrong) enRAB up playing at least twice per episode in addition to the opening credits. It's a nice song, but it seems to be the only song they have.
I also find that the fact that the DVD puts opening credits, Japanese end credits, then American translation team end credits onto each and every episode to be very annoying. There's six minutes of credits (I've timed them) per episode, and that means I have to constantly tell the DVD to skip ahead.
So has anyone else seen this? Does it improve? Am I missing something? I've been through the first four discs (four episodes per disc) and I just can't find anything about it that makes me wanna stick it out to the end.
