Bell is really starting to piss me off with their theme packs. to save money i got to subscribe to several packs with channels i dont even watch or need just to get the channels i want or else i would be paying more individually wheres the logic in that other then ripping us off.

I haven't researched this to validate but I think the theme packs are created in such a way as to provide some income to all of the programming providers no matter what themes the customer chooses. I think each of the programming providers has at least a few channels in each theme.

What bugs me more is that the sams shows are spread over many channels. Almost always they are to make up the Canadian content for the channel.

CRTC does not allow to pick and pay for individuial channels. Last I heard that they were going to drop some of the restrictions , but when and to what extent who knows.

Not quite true, Videotron has had "pick & pay" plans (pick 15, pick 20 and pick 30) for the longest time.

The channels in Variety2, Sports2, Lifestyle2, More Movies and Variety3 could be purchased individually for 2.50$ each...

To avoid surprise here is something important to consider:the theme packs are 8$ each or 5X20$
If you take 2 theme packs it will cost you 16$, so for only 4$ you could be getting 3 other theme packs
If you take 3 theme packs it will cost you 24$, 4$ more than it will cost you to take 5 themes
If you take 4 theme packs it will cost you 32$, 12$ more than it will cost you to take 5 themes. If you call to "downgrade" the agent will probably offer you to add the movies and a theme pack for only 7$ to avoid the 12$ "downgrade

Check out your options with other providers...I can almost guarantee they will all make you pay for channels you don't want just to get the ones you do want...
Heck, even Videotron has a "a la carte" but if you only want 10 channels, you have to pay for 5 you don't want, or if you want 20 channels, you have to pay for 10 you don't want...

Now you go me started again! I was ranting about this a few months ago and had since come to accept my fate (another Bell conspiracy?). Its not just the make up individual theme paks that frustrate, it the pricing structure as well. If you only want (or only need) 3 theme paks (plus the other, ie Movies, HD, Base, but no sports) you will actually pay a few $ more than just going for a 6 pak of themes. Right now I've had to go with the 6 Theme Pak, and then use the "Favourite" channels list to screen out 3 whole themes that I never watch.. ever. It is very complicated and confusing, but you can't even go for the 5 Themes Pak to save a couple of bucks, because that affects the number of HD paks you are "allowed" to subscribe to! Which then affects the "special" package price of the HD themes (i.e. 4 for $10). It's nuts!

Oh, if only there was some other provider that had the same HD offerings...

If you want the movie...
5 themes 20$ + movies 19$=39$
6 themes 25$ + movis 16$=41$
If you only hve 5 themes and call BellTV the agent will most probably offer you to take an extra theme pack for only 2$. It's not the that the theme is cheaper, the theme will cost you 5$, but the movie package goes down to 16$ if you have more than 5 theme packs

As of Jan. 1 you now need to get 7 themes to get the $16 movie package. With 6 themes it will still cost you $19 to get Movies. So it's now:

7 themes $31 + movies $16= $47

This has changed. 5 theme packs is now $23. I believe 6 theme packs is now $26 in the new pricing scheme. So you're gonna have to re-do all your math.
