running at normal temperature...? I drive a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix and a while ago it overheated. I fixed the problem and the engine is running alright but the temperature gauge is stuck on hot. I'm about to drive the car a few hundred miles (bad idea, but it's my only way home) and my family swears there's nothing to worry about. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but I'm very uneasy about driving a car and not knowing the engine temperature. Is there maybe a quick and dirty solution to knowing the temperature (I don't care if it looks pretty). I've been told I need to locate and replace the sending unit but I have no idea where that is either.

I dont blame you for being uneasy about driving without a working temp gauge.the only solution is either to repair the problem or you could install an aftermarket temp gauge (not really a quick fix) which would involve some work. Or say a few hail Mary's and just go for it like your family suggests!
