The Simpsons - "Treehouse of Horror XX" - Talkback [10/18]

The third act was so weird and ridiculous that it was funny. Homer's "letter" and his song about being gay being the highlights for me.

Overall, it was pretty decent. I missed most of the first story so I'll give it a B-.

The opening was pretty amusing.
The first act was okay.
The second act was hilarious and my favorite one, especially the ending.
The last one was kinda dull.

The whole thing seemed somewhat mediocre compared to past TOH's, so I give it a C.

That was pretty good. The first story was really good - predictable, but clever. The zombie one was definitely the highlight, particularly Apu being left behind; great timing on that one. And the last one was incredibly creative. Barney coming in dressed like the Phantom of the Opera had me rolling.

So, yeah, not a bad year. Better than last's, I think.

This was EXCELLENT!!!!! Loved every minute of it; and especially the "Phantom of the Opera" send-up. A masterful job of writing, characterization, and parody. Kudos to Groening and crew. And Homer and Marge are the best toon couple EVER!!! :D:D:D

Overall, a fairly entertaining episode, but weak as THOHs go.

Criss-Cross Act: Yeah, this one was weakest for me. It didn't really click for me, although to be fair I missed the last minute or so because my roommate needed something. Seemed somewhat forced and brief.

Zombie Act: I'm probably biased due to my enjoyment of zombie movies/novels, but this was easily my favorite. The humor, atmosphere and flow were most appealing. Like a previous poster said, though, I didn't like the ending all that much. I am awaiting the reaction of an IM acquaintance of mine that hates anything zombies...

Sweeny Todd Act: I think this was a very creative story, but the set-up of it being a show with in a show made it fall a little flat. This one would have worked better as a full or half episode.

Over all... solid B.

Second story was the best by far, the third was good, and the first was alright but it just didn't really hold my attention. Pretty good ToH overall.

I found this interesting, for the second year in a row, a Treehouse Of Horror has generated a small bit of controversy. Apparently Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League, has taken issue with the line "What kind of civilized people eat the body and blood of their savior?" which was spoken in the Don't Have a Cow, Mankind segment.

Last year's Treehouse also generated some controversy, after a gay rights awareness group objected to Nelson's line "the Grand Pumpkin is super gay". I don't know about you, but I find this amazing, since The Simpsons has been saying stuff like this since it's inception, and shows like Family Guy say stuff like this all the time. Why people are objecting to it now after 20 years, and why they are doing it with The Simpsons, is beyond me.

As long as people keep saying and doing things, other people are going to keep being offended by those things. I'd say Marge summed it up quite well in "The Great Wife Hope" - "If this isn't to my taste, no one else should be able to enjoy it!".

Eh, it was boring this year. The middle segment was the best, with the zombie apocolypse. The other two parts were kind of dull. It was really disappointing, since the Treehouse of Horror episodes are usually my favorites.
