The Simpsons - "To Surveil With Love" - Talkback [5/2]

The opening was great. I don't care if the song chosen is an Autotuned random ditty by someone with a dollar sign in her name. It was just....FUN.

The actual episode wasn't too shabby either. This feels weird; two Lisa episodes in a row and I liked them both.

That was a funny "Tik Tok" opening credit sequence for The Simpsons, hope Family Guy does this someday!

Strange quote by Lunchlady Doris as Milhouse has a hard decision choosing a colored Jell-O until he decides on the yellow color: "It's your pet canary, now scram!"

3 things about it...

1. I thought the intro was AWESOME!!!

2. I'm hoping to god that Lisa is back to her normal color by next week.

3. When Flanders kept making that "tch-tch-tch-tch-tch" sound over and over.... I wanted to kill him. My brother used to do that and it drove me insane. Flanders is quickly becoming more and more of a bible-thumping ****** who NEEDS TO GET LAID!

Sorry... got off on a rant there....

Seriously, do you have to find SOMETHING to argue about in every Simpsons thread? It's ridiculous. When you first quoted me, I never even mentioned the opening (at least in the sentence you quoted) , it just seems you're trying to pick an argument.

My bad for not knowing what a true parody is, I just thought it was a funny video. I dislike classic rock, but if they did an opening with that, I would've still enjoyed it. You didn't like it. I did. End of story.

While I have issues with Ke$ha and that song, I thought the opening sequence was well animated. As for the episode itself, I can't remember the last time I laughed like I did. The jokes were solid, the concept was nice with Flanders being a Big Brother overlord, and Homer making money off the blind spot of the cameras. Good outing for the Simpsons this week.

The A plot wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed it. However I thought the B plot with Lisa was absolutely awful the very end with Queen Elizabeth was just lame.

Missed the opening though.

This isn't a "yes men" discussion board. If it is, then its no different then Mr. Burns's "yes men" whose only responses are: "Yup!", "Okay", "Yeah, it is!", ect...

...

The reason I hated the opening wasn't soley it being a silly production, it was due to the show's blatent pandering to Fox and the most fickle bits of what seems trendy in pop-culture. Even worse, since the show takes so long to make, even "Tik Tok" is already fading out and won't be anything but a track on NOW that's what I call music 35, or something. Productions like this cross-promotion with Glee are things the writers used to tell fox to go screw themselves

Also, when did I say was a HUGE fan of classic rock? I never said I was.

I really hate wasting my time arguing with you, but I will anyways.

1. In your first post, you quoted me saying "I don't care what Simpsons haters say... etc" not the first post I made. I mentioned that in my post, but I guess you didn't care to read it.

2. I said you were picking arguments. With me, over anyone else that thought the opening was good.

3. All it was was a video that involved a hit song. (From what I hear, it's one of the top selling digital songs in history) Hasn't the Simpsons always covered what's trending in popular culture?

If you feel it's a waste of time, then don't argue with him. Just put him on your ignore list and go on your way, never-minding what he has to say about the current state of the show.

Normally I would, but I've been stuck indoors for 4 days and counting, so this appeases my boredom...

I wanted to correct the wrong notions he had, as well.

Honestly, I don't like the opening. It's so...so...cheesy. It feels like the ultimate example of the show crying out, "We're still relevant!" Granted, with the series being over twenty years old, I should expect it, but it's probably due to the corny factor that I just can't stand it.

The episode is fine regardless. Lisa as a blonde was kinda weird, mostly because I never pictured the Simpsons family as blonde (and canonically, neither Homer or Marge or their parents had blonde hair). I just pictured then with funny-shaped hair. *shrugs* Good ending twist, I liked that though. Came out of nowhere, yes, but I think I can take it for the sake of comedy.

In this episode Bart re-affirms that he’s blond, like the bad guys from Karate Kid and World War 2, but I remember that they said once that he was a red head, except running around outside bleached his hair out.
Seems like a throw away, I think they were more interested in drawing him with red stripes then anything.
I can’t remember which episode that was though.

Hey, you know another season of “Heroes” and I hope I’m not saying the same thing about that show.

It's not "picking arguments" when I'm not telling you what you want to hear. Really...what do you expect/want me to say? That the opening is of fun! Cheerful! Hip! Cool! (Insert synonomous "GLEE" word here). But a rule I stand by is a geniunely great tv show manufacturs its own 'cool'. A pathetic TV show mimics "trendy" pop culture. The Simpsons in their worst moments over the years have never looked this pathetic.

Good for Ke$ha, or however her name is spelt. But the Simpsons, at least the REAL simpsons doesn't 'cover' what is trending in pop culture. This isn't TMZ, it's a show that makes fun of the stupid aspects of pop culture and it's not supposed to be cheerfully feeding it.

On another board, this poster said:

"Even in the Scully and early Jean era, the writers would never allow that couch gag to air, no matter how much FOX pressured them. It was nicely animated, but that doesn't justify anything. I'm sure the casual pop-culture obsessed viewer ate it up due to it's "hip" randomness and are watching it again on youtube right now, but for anyone who has the slightest idea what the Simpsons are about, no matter what style or era of the show you are accustomed to, watching Simpsons characters willingly sing that awful song was embarassing. I mean I literally got chills when Otto of all people was playing along..."
