It's December 17, 2009. On the east coast, anyway. So, you know what that means? The Simpsons officially turn 20. Unless Wikipedia and IMDb are lying! If they aren't then it was exactly 20 years ago today when The Simpsons premiered on FOX with their first Christmas episode.

The characters themselves turned 20 back in 2007.

I think they should have aged the characters if only a little bit. It's weird to watch early 90s episodes with references to George Bush (the first) being President and for Bart to still be in the fourth grade three presidents later.

I still remember the night that the first Simpsons episode aired. My family and I went to Pizza Hut, and I used my "book-it" coupon to get my free personal pan pizza. When we went home, I remember watching the Simpsons Christmas episode. I thought that it was just a one time special.

I doubt they're even aware. Although, with Christmas around the corner, I wouldn't be surprised if the episode does indeed air in the next few days.

I was very disappointed that there wasn't any reruns of any of The Simpsons Christmas episodes during the 2009 Christmas season. I kept checking every day, but I didn't see any of them on tv. Fortunately I own this episode on the Christmas dvd, so I threw that in.

Congrats to The Simpsons for 20 years. Hard to believe it's still going. It's lasted longer than any other animated show on FOX and will probably outlast many more shows that have yet to premeire.
