The Simpsons - "Elementary School Musical" - Talkback [9/26]

I must say, even as I am one of the only people who still finds the show very funny, this episode dissappointed. The Lisa plot was VERY dull, and the Krusty plot was remotely interesting. I found like 5 jokes funny:

5. The Electirc Comany bit with SPider-Man dancing

4. Maggie using the new pacifier as a cigar

3. Homer: (refering to the Nobel Peace Prize) I would kill for that!

2. We're Region 1! We're Region 1!

1. The couch gag of the episode

And when the couch gag is the funiest thign of the episode, it really worries me. And to sum up, the other 4 jokes weren't all that funny, eithr. I really hope the next episodes are better...but wait, they are Lisa centred too?! Ok, let's hope the TReehouse of Horror lifts up...

The Simpsons - "Elementary School Musical" - Talkback [9/26]

Sun City is an internationally known, wealthy, South African resort and popular stop for touring performers.

But during the 80's there were peaceful anti-apartheid movements in America and Europe, such as sanctions, boycotts and disinvestment of South African companies.

Performing artist protest by starting the ?Not going to play Sun City? movement, which was also a song.(but you don't have to listen to that.)

And Krusty just had good timing not to play there right before apartheid fell. And the luck to be filmed refusing to perform.

Is it weird that with the Concords guys and the Glee people my favorite musical bit in the episode was the rendition of the Itchy and Scratchy theme?

The episode started out okay, but didn't really improve. I liked the pointing out of how they got ahead of Lisa and Marge and were on top of the building, I didn't like the magic and them flying away. It's Simpsons gags like that that try too hard.

Actually, the bit with the two camp counselors flying away at the end is a nod to the people playing them, the Flight of the Conchords (as the two are seen flying in the same formation on the box art for the second season of their HBO TV show).

Yup, a gag done for the sake of an unintended laugh, after watching the episode "bart gets an F" from season 2 it's sad to see how one-sided, liberal athiest, unrealistic and silly the show has gotten:shrug::sad:

If Lisa wanted to be a better singer, they should've had Jimbo, Dolph and Kerney be the teachers. Season 4's musical "Hail to thee Kamp Krusty" was a much better summer camp song.

Or from 'Last Exit to Springfield' Lisa sings for everyone "So we'll march day and night by the big cooling tower, they have the plans but we have the power".

Season 4 was such a classic season:)

As worthless as this episode was, they almost could have done it without using any members of the Simpson family.

And after all the hype of the Glee cast, they didn’t even register a blip. Not that I mind. At least it’s not like they tried to take over the show. They did their song (wasn’t that good) and played their part. And that’s what guest stars should do.(except maybe give them a better song)

On the other hand, it felt like a failed attempt at a spin off for those other two guys.
In a “Lisa runs off to the big city episode” it would have been nice if Lisa made an attempt at something when she got there. Instead she just observed how pathetic those two guys were, then went home. She didn’t do anything to warrant that mural at the end, and given how bad her visit was, why would she ever want to go back?
Maybe she’d rather give the REAL Brooklyn a shot, where something interesting may actually happen.

Maybe it would have been of some interest if they delivered on the show title.
But I guess they already did that with the Eva Peron inspired episode, which I would have gone away from amused if it wasn’t for the revolting joke Otto delivered at the end.

I didn’t care for Lisa’s attitude towards Grandpa. A quote from a famous poet is a treasure, but if the exact same words occur to a simple man they’re garbage.:rolleyes2::mad:

The Krusty plot wasn’t that good. It may have been better though thanks to a peppering of gags and jokes. The Hitler clock at least.

Yes, I felt the same.
Well, as soon as you mentioned it. I had almost forgot after contemplating the crumminess of the rest.
