Reader robmburke has a Surface RT tablet that he's managed to customize just to his liking, with RSS feeds across the bottom, system monitors along the side, and more. You don't have to have an RT tablet to get this to work, but if you do, he even included the hack that let him unlock it and run unsigned Windows apps.
