What do people make of The Rock as an actor?
I think he's pretty good and I think his upcoming film Southland tales will really boost his career.
It has gotten down to the final three at the Cannes film festival so Im guessing it's of quality.
I think the Rock's days as wrestler where he had to do a lot of acting has prepared him well.
Welcome to the Jungle and Walking Tall are two good movies while I think The Scorpion King is hugely entertaining and I would say it's better than both Mummy films.Ignore Doom and I think The Rock has made the transition from wrestler to actor really well.
What do others think?
 
he's ok but will always be a better wrestler. Makes sense though switching, doesn't have to work as long meaning that he can spend more time at home with his family. Also there's a much less risk on injury or worse and he'd also be paid more.
 
The Rock is just OK , but we need someone in that role as Arnie, Sly & Bruce are getting on a bit , maybe the Rock is the one. who else ?
 
I quite like him. I've never watched the new incarnation of wrestling (I used to watch Big Daddy with my Grandparents when I was little :o ) but I saw Doom last night and you're right, the less said the better.

However I saw The Rock in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager and I thought he was really good.

i like him - bar doom (urgh) he's been highly watchable in everything he's done, and can obviously hold his own in terms of stunts.

probably the best thing about get shorty 2.
 
In "welcome to the jungle/the rundown" there is actually a subtle scene where Arnie suggestively "passes the torch" of action hero's/ films to Dwayne as he walks passed him in the club saying "have fun"
 
I think he's a pretty good actor. Lets face it he will never be an oscar winner but what he does he does well.
Plus, I love the remake of Walking Tall that he was in. Thought that was better then most remakes i've seen.
 
I always think of the hideous CGI from The Mummy Returns when I see The Rock so I just burst out laughing.

But the film The Rock, that was good, which is what I thought this thread was about until I opened it!
 
well i thought it might be about the rock film, as the rock might be using his proper name more now his acting is going well. you know like all these rap peoples
 
The Rock has potential to be the next big action star. All he neeRAB is a big gun along with a few Soviet Russians trying to blow up the world and he'll be on his way to action hero stardom.

He proved in Be Cool he's a capable enough actor, but his movie career must surely lie with blowing stuff up.
