The reason the US has problems with wars in the middle east

The only enemy that the US knew for the past 30 years was the USSR and the soviet bloc. Everything we did was to try and increase our technology against them. IE space race, amrs race, H bomb race. All we did was focus on making huge spy satellites and very powerfull fighter jets/bombers.
What we didn't take into account was that our new enemies in the middle east barely even have radio contact with eachother, let alone a massive network that we could spy on and attack.
We spent millions on missile defense systems, these people that we are fighting have weapons left over from WWII. We are so far from being prepared to fight in the middle east. We have to go back to ground tatics that we used in WWII. This whole bomb from afar is not working. When we bomb bunkers and you see pictures on TV, you can't tell which buliding was hit and which was just a POS.
We should have been inventing more weapons like powerfull machine guns to where the enemy would not want to fight for fear of being otu gunned. The crazy stuff that has been in black-works for the past 20 years has to do with EMP pulses leaving infastructure intact. These weapons are useless against a civilization that has no electronics. The weapons we have can only revert them to the state they are in now.
I say we figure out a a good way to get around oil, then leave these countries to themselfs. If they grow with technology then we can bitch slap them 20 years from now. If they fail, well they were shitty anyways.

We do have machine guns that are better then anything else out there. The problem is that THEY FIGHT TO DIE AND WE FIGHT TO LIVE. They dont care if they die and that gives them an advantage. All the missle defense and all the technology we have is why no one else fucks with us. If we didnt have that, other countries would stand up to fight. If we didnt develop all these weapons the Russians would have been the US now. The only way to defeat them is by large number of forces but can we afford to send so many troops in. its not a full blown war with the US. Its easy just to bomb infrastructor and destroy what they have.

no. the problem is we're not fighting a conventional war where it's one country vs another (WWII). the US has already proven that it kicks total ass in conventional warfare. look at pre-saddam iraq... it fell in under two weeks with minimal US casualties. but we're not at war with iraq, we're at war with "terrorists" who have setup camp in iraq. when it comes to occupying a foreign country where the hostiles blend in with the civilian population, it's a whole different story. it's a lot easier to simply level an entire city than to kill a handful of insurgents/terrorists. imagine if our military didnt try to minimize civilian casualties and collateral damage...

This is where the phrase "Making a pact with the devil himself" comes in. Killing terrorists and killing their infrastructure will not accomplish anything, because it's not the objects that terrorists are using that count, it's what's in their heads. What they believe in is what counts. That is what keeps them going to the extremes.

The only reason the West will lose badly this war on terrorism is because it is fighting against an extreme ideology, which is taught to Muslim youth everyday. You can't win against something that's in people's heads.

I was in the UK a couple of years ago. And what I saw was quite amazing, in a bad way. There are many mosques in London which are used by normal and moderate Muslims for services and prayers. But what many people don't know is that that same mosque, after hours, is used by radicals to gather around people and show them images of Iraqis suffering under US military occupation in Iraq and Israeli military occupation in the Palestininian territories.

The BBC did a documentary type of thing on these radicals in the UK, and one of the organizers who shoes these images said that a Muslim is only a true Muslim when he declares holy war(jihad) on the Western world. If he does not, Allah will greatly punish him.
