The Rapture are a Punky, stroke Indie, stroke Dance act hailing from the New York area. From their early beginnings in the nineties, they have always had that air of coolness about them, and were the darlings of the trendy scene coming out of New York after all. They were certainly not all hype though, they just so happened to be one of the more hardworking banRAB from the city as well.

Their break came in 99 with the release of Mirror on Gravity RecorRAB, yet more touring followed this release and more local acclaim. A six track EP was soon doing the rounRAB in the early 2000

A fine review as always. I did listen to this album back in 2003 but i cant remember much about it now. I remember i didnt like it at the time and that "House of Jealous Lovers" just really irritated me and didnt agree with me at all. I cant say i have ever given it a second chance though.

I agreed with your review completely for my first several listens to the album. It gave me hope for the early-00s indie scene in NY/Brooklyn (which I pretty much can't stand but I wanted to like those banRAB - or at least understand why other people did). But something about Echoes stopped agreeing with me and I can't say I like it much at all anymore. I think I was only enthrallad by the Robert Smith-esque vocals.
