The Polar Express

Who has seen this film?.... Yeah, I know it's not Christmas anymore! But I didn't manage to see it during Christmas so decided to watch it about 2hrs ago and wasn't expecting much but... what can I say?!...

The animation was absolutely fantastic! I've never seen an animated CGI feature look "this good". This film easily wipes the floor with previous groundbreaking CGI animations such as Toy Story, Shrek, Monsters Inc, Dinosaur etc.

While the story is aimed mainly at children, I found it to be highly enjoyable. I'm a 24 year old who has never let their imagination and enjoyment of Christmas fade away as many unhappy adults seem to do. So naturally, I just turn a blind eye to them because in the end, their opinions about this film being dull and really bad etc are nothing more then worthless to me if my opinion happens to differ, which obviously, it does.

The music score by Alan Silvestri was also excellent! Although at times it sounded like Danny Elfman's score to Edward ScissorhanRAB, that's never a bad thing, because that score is excellent too!

This one gets 7 out of 10 from me.

I am in my 40's and enjoyed watching this film with my other half at Xmas (and without kiRAB!).

It really is a really sweet film and will hopefully become an Xmas classic for TV.

They have no life around the eyes which makes them look really creepy and unfeeling, but the animation is really good. Didn't think much of 'Polar Express', but if you liked the animation in that you may like Final Fantasy, which is more of a sci-fi but the same type of animation...

Polar express works much better in 3D. If you can next christmas, try and go see it at an Eye Max theatre. It's a shame they can't release a 3D version for use at home.
Still a lovely little film, despite the dodgy eyes!

Would that mean they did not have any eyelashes or is this something altogether more technical?

Only joking!

Yeah, I've seen Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Shame about the story and dull characters though, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is much, much better. The story and characters are both a major improvement over Spirits Within and the CG animation is still top notch.

Back to The Polar Express though... regarding the "no life around the eyes which makes them look really creepy and unfeeling" comment. I must admit for some reason, I actually like that, it's probably because it makes the film darker in general and I myself, am a sucker for dark, gloomy, etc type films.

LOL Its IMAX :D But I agree the 3d version is amazing.

Took my little sister to see it but ended up enjoying it more than her :)

Did you know Tom Hanks plays most of the characters himself? He's the little boy, the conductor, the old man, santa and someone else

One of my all time fave films ever this is a brilliant film.
we first watched this 2 xmas eves ago and it was the perfect xmas film.i will not watch it out of season.(i wont watch any xmas films out of season)
So this year we have a projector and am looking forward to this years viewing on a 9ft by 5ft image on the wall simply divine.agree with the eyes comment esp the opening scene when he boarRAB the train,he looks like hes blinRAB as the eyes are missing something.i know they filmed it for real and coloured it in after so maybe thats why.
im a huge xmas fan and this is one of the best best viewed on xmas eve as the film is set on xmas eve...

I loved this film....its fantastic at the festive time of year. Its a nice family film that everyone can watch and enjoy.

The animation was superb and as a Tom Hanks fan anyway, the narration and voices were perfect for the film.

 "I'm willing to bet that if, say, an advert for milk came on the TV and it depicted a child, innocently drinking a glass of milk at the kitchen table, you would delude yourself into finding something creepy about that too"

Why do I automatically roll my eyes and think of a word that goes before "cat" whenever I read these same, tired comments regarding The Polar Express?... hmmm, let me think.

I really hated this film. The characters looked creepy, it was a very sparse story dragged out too long and worst of all the Christmas land at the end was like some sort of disturbing totalitarian state

And what on earth was it with that sinister tramp on the roof of the train
