here! Thanks for any help!? At a ball game, consider a baseball of mass m = 0.15 kg that is moving at a speed v = 40 m/s as it is grabbed by a fan.
(a) Show that the impulse supplied to bring the ball to rest is 6.0 N s.
(b) If the ball is stopped in 0.03 s, show that the average force of the ball on the catcher’s hand is 200N.

(a) looking at the units (N s) tell us that impulse is force (N) * time (s). Force is mass * acceleration. Therefore impulse = mass * acceleration * time = mass * change in velocity

mass * change in velocity is also change in momentum. so impulse is change in momentum to stop ball. Ie/ impulse = Mom(before) - Mom(after)
= 0.15*40 - 0.15 * 0 = 6 Ns as expected

(b) impulse = force * time as determined earlier. So average force = impulse / time = 6 /0.03 = 200 N
