The past tense of CAST and words with cast in them?

I always use "cast" as the past tense and past participle of TO CAST (not casted, I cringe when I hear "He was casted as" or "I casted the net.") But what about words with cast in them, like broadcast? I see people write "broadcasted," and I even typed it into Microsoft Word and it was not corrected by spell check. It still sounds wrong to me, but is that common usage of the word?
