This was a (Francis Ford) Coppola movie. And, all I remember was that it was so beautiful. The colors were just so soft and imprinting. And, I thought Diane Lane was just so beautiful... in image and in character. She had this bit of understanding, yet, she could never forgive (because Leif Garrett was still her beau).
This was filmed at the time when the Winnetka Drive-In still existed, so, it had that bit of feel-of-home appeal... for those who lived in what was rural L.A. back then.
I think this was the actual film that labelled the actors of what is "The Brat Pack" and not the Hughes films as believed. (This is where the debate begins.

) I think this label was because, at the time, all the actors were so unknown... except for Ralph Macchio. And then, E.T., St. Elmo's Fire, the John Hughes films, Tom Cruise, Dirty Dancing came about. This definitely started what was to be an enslought of youth into films... at the time. And, we certainly went to these movies. Yes, I'm old. I personally think the name is reminiscent of "The Rat Pack" and that group of young gentlemen. And, I'm sure lots of girls ran to the movies back then to see Sinatra et al.
But, I just remember how I emulated Diane Lane (maybe why I can't stop watching Under a Tuscan Sun). Everything she picked as a role was so romantic. This was during the Duran Duran time of my life and I definitely held back and stepped into my more conservative self and probably why I feel like... now... I'm walking Diane Lane's footsteps... into the Tuscan Sun. Anyone go Italian ceramic crazy?
Now... I can't remember if Matt Dillon had already been seen with Kristy McNichol or not. I definitely related to Kristy previously... except for the whole loosing your virginity at camp thing. Wait... I think this film was after Little Darlings because Matt was also a name back then. But, not so much anyone else. This was the boys breakthrough film. And, it is funny to see Tom Cruise be so deep in a film... hee! Did anyone catch those scenes of Tom that were previously edited out? Watch them be in the DVD and I am completely unaware.
Yes, extremely verbous for a first post, but, what can I say... the movie touched.
I'm so glad someone started this thread. Thank you! *huge smiles*
