Brush it off or seek action? I've been working for a small data entry company for almost 2.5 years now. One or two coworkers have always gone out of their way to demonstrate hostility toward me by staring me down whenever I enter or leave a room, not saying "hi","excuse me", or "thank you" when the need calls for it, staring at me whenever they pass my desk, etc.
One of them used to laugh about how she would drop her friend (also a coworker) to a bus stop 10 minutes away, while I walked (through all four seasons). Now that I'm driving, the hostility has gotten worse. No matter what time I leave work, they make sure that they leave at the same time (but rushing out or waiting around) and then sit in their cars and watch me pull out, while smirking.
I noticed that they've also been obsessed with a couple of coworkers who have come and gone. The environment is made up of mostly middle-aged immigrants and the coworkers they used to talk about all the time were my age (mid 20s) and Canadian-born. The difference with me (also mid 20s and Canadian) is that they demonstrate obsession and HOSTILITY.
Management is really passive. I've brought instances to their attention before (for example, one girl declared loudly in the lunch room last year, "So I talk to everyone, except...(clear throat)" and nothing has really come from it. All management cares about is productivity.
I know I haven't been sexually harassed but I feel very uncomfortable...everyday. One lady even shoved into me while passing by a couple of months ago, and didn't say "sorry!"
I've been job hunting for a while now but haven't found anything. Is my only option to quit my job when it gets unbearable or is there a 3rd party here in Ontario, Canada that would take my situation seriously and offer advice/action I can take?
Thanks.
