I came across this film whilst looking over projects in development on the (Internet Movie Database and was really elated to discover that a British action thriller with a compelling storyline to it has been slated for a 2010 release to cinemas worldwide.
The film is called The Operative and essentially provides an objective focus point on a former officer of the British elite SAS Regiment who is kicked out of the British Army with dishonourable discharge for a Middle Eastern mission that had horrific consequences. Now working as a Security Guard, John Beech is trying to adapt to a normal civilian life with his family. During an evening at the theatre with wife Cathy and daughter Amy, John witnesses a brutal assassination before he hunts down and kills the assassin without questioning or trial. Soon after, he becomes the isolated target for an ultra violent Afghanistan terrorist movement known as the 'Red Dawn' who - apart from assuming revenge on Beech for his involvement in this slaying - are themselves on a mission from Allah to destroy London with nuclear backpack bombs, using children as human bombers.
The film, produced by Valesaro Pictures was written by Richard Stephens and is directed by award-winning Hollywood Stuntman and Director Stuart St Paul.
I have seen a lot of the recent action flicks including "Taken" (a great brutally realistic film) and Quantum of Solace (probably not the best 007 venture produced) but I am keen to follow the progress of this film, as I am sure a lot of readers to this article will be also because for once - it is based on actual Middle Eastern terrorism conflicts, it has decent actors who are passionate about the film and not just the pay, and it will be the first truly British filmed and fully funded independent motion picture since The Italian Job with Michael Caine.
A paperback novel of "The Operative" is also available for sale online at Amazon.com. Unlike many other paperback books of films, this book actually allows you to preview the first chapter of the book before you even buy it! I just ordered my copy!
I'll re-post as soon as I find out as and when there are any film trailers or anything else about this film. Check it out and add it to your bookmarks!
