The Only Way is Essex: Stereotypical rubbish?

I'm completely compelled by The Only Way is Essex - it's the worst thing featuring the worst people but it's very addictive.

But is it going to start a strain of Essex jokes - I bet most women have been trying to shake off the tag of being an 'Essex Bird' but the show is hardly complimentary towarRAB women.

So here's the question - how realistic is it? It makes the blokes look like d1cks and the women look like sl@gs - but I'm guessing a lot of viewers will like it.
 
Is this programme actually meant to be serious ? I'm finding it quite amusing, and for such a rubbish show, its actually very addictive.

And for one thing, the programme sure isn't helping the Essex Girls sterotype.

there are a lot of people EVERYWHERE like that - try going to some provincial towns on a Saturday night and you'll see it for yourself. Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle
