the oil light on my 1997 Toyota Tercel flickers when I brake or am idle.?

3 days ago, the oil light on my car started flickering if I applied the brakes or sat idle in traffic for at least a few seconds. Any guesses to what is going on or how to fix it. I have to return to school today which is 150 miles away and wanted to know if it would be safe to drive that distance and then get it checked out over there.
 
have you checked the oil? check your oil. once you insure your oil level is ok i wouldn't worry about it until you get where your going.
 
First check the oil level in your car. it might be low also it could be your oil sending unit but a cheap easy check is the oil level
