The North Face Backpacks: Surge or Sure Shot?

The bottom line is in the title. I'm really looking for the backpack that can handle the most--storage wise. My current school requires quite a bit of book lugging and I've narrowed my search down to these two bags. Each of them has a volume of 2150 in3 (35 liters) according to the http://www.thenorthface.com website. I would just like to know which one is the best choice for my school needs.

P.S. Vacations are a factor also. Which bag might be the best for "squeezing through tight places?"
