So Nimiq 1 and 2 are parked at 91 and Nimiq 3 and 4 are at 82. Any one have any idea what Nimiq 2 and 3 are doing??

Actually nimiq 2 is at 82
I believe there are multiple satellites at the same orbital position because both original satellites had partial failures that caused transponders to lose power
Putting another satellite in the same position allowed them to have the same bandwidth available as was originally planned.

Merve is right. They moved Nimiq 2 to 91 degrees a short while after N4 went up to support/provide backup to N1. I imagine N3 is serving a similar purpose to the new N4.

No. With all the changes recently with birds moving it might be better to refer to programming coming from 82 degrees or 91 degrees and not from Nimiq 4 or Nimiq 1.

Do not forget the only 2 Nimiqs up there that started life as Nimiqs are N2 & N4. N1 & N3 used to be DirecTv birds many moons ago.

Nimiq 1 and Nimiq 2 are original equipment, as well as Nimiq 4. The extra satellites are strictly for load sharing and/or backup.

Hahaha, wrong again
Sorry Merve, I just remember Bell selling me the Nimiq 2 upgrade kit for HD....
I guess that was before the move
D'oh

You are correct.

I was thinking of Nimiq 4i and Nimiq 4ir, they along with Nimiq 3 were second hand birds.

Well I can see Nimiq1\2 maybe splitting the load as Nimiq1 was loosing strenght so concentrate the power to only half the transponders and well Nimiq2 we all know the story on its issues.. So Nimiq 3 is just on a standby mode in the event I take it?? Was the lease up on Nimiq 4iR?? I ask this because they have a couple of spare birds floating and I cant pull any info off of Nimiq2 if its even in use. I guess what I'm trying to say is; why dont they start maybe phasing in the 72.5 orbital location which they will be using next year. Do some testing, develope some hardware have some pilots. Maybe then we could have more info on whats the plan with 72.5

We don't even know if Bell will make use of Nimq 5. They've already leased half to Dish, and it doesn't appear they're interested in Ciel-2. I would have thought half of Ciel-2 for the West, and half of Nimiq 5 for the East, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I don't know what there plans are.

I am an av installer in in the southeast U.S. and a customer has inquired with me about bev service at his home. Is this going to be possible for the hd and sd content? Please reply. Thanks

what are you talking about? the new Nimiq 5? if you are no one knowns what Bell will do with it yet? nimiq 1 91W is all SD programming and nimiq 2/4 is all international and HD programming. sense they activated the new nimiq 4 sat at 82W most of the US cannot get a signal from it now

What are talking about mickk?, the guy was only asking if he could pick up both 91 and 82 in the southern US. He did not mention Nimiq 5

Currently HD is possible in Nashville with an 30 inch dish. South of this you will the signal drops off to where you will not have a strong enough signal or no signal at all. SD is fine for now in the Southeast with a regular 20" dish except maybe the southern half of Florida.

There is no 82 footprint in southern California and Arizona. Most RVrs are switching to Starchoice. In our park there were 2 Bell dishes and 15 Starchoice Dishes.
At Quartzite they are selling automatic dishes for Starchoice - Motosat and Wenguard.
I am glad I brought Starchoice down this year. That means a lot of RV customers have gone south to Starchoice.

sorry it i couldn't figure out what he was asking because if he was refurring to trying to get 91 and or 82 because it was already discussed many times on these boards and i even awnsered his question anyway

mickk, sorry but Nimiq5 came out of left field. If you are not sure what was asked then why answer it?

Since the launch of Nimiq 4, 28 of 32 TP's hit 100% on a 20" dish. So that issue has been resolved,, it was really bad with Nimiq2\4iR, 50's and 60's.

Ciel-2 isint realistic, it will be parked at 129W, thats a 38 degree span. I dont think theres a dish that can do that and I doubt many folks want to start building a dishfarm on their roofs.

Here in Orlando, getting all of the SD channels without a problem. Unfortunately HD no longer available. If they want HD, Starchoice would be the way to go.
