The best stat available today is +/- ratio: the amount of points a team scores and allows when a particular player is on the court. You can view it here: http://basketballvalue.com/teamplayers.php?year=2007-2008&team=LAL

The numbers:
Kobe: +10.42
Garnett: +9.45, Pierce: 10.51
LeBron: +10.98
Howard: +16.88
Chris Paul: -0.42; Peja S.: +12.39

KG is just as valuable to his team as Pierce, something I've been telling people.
No one on the Lakers, Cavs, or Magic are nearly as valuable as their top players.

TEAMS OUTSCORE THE HORNETS WHEN CHRIS PAUL IS ON THE COURT.

People like to quote Paul's steals as evidence he is a good defender. Grabbing 2 steals out of 110 possessions every game is really something to brag about? Defense is *every* time down the court, people. Paul is a terrific PG; but teams score more points *against* the Hornets when he's on the court.

Basketball is a game of offense AND defense.

Kobe....LeBron....Howard -- your only legitimate MVP candidates for 2007-2008.
As the title says, here's *A* measure. it's not to be taken as the *only* measure. Jamison, Howard -- they're not exactly leading their team to the best record in their conference.

People should basically use these numbers to help differentiate between the top candidates. We all know who those candidates are.

And it's not a knock on KG to talk about Pierce....PP has just been that terrific this year. Just my humble opinion, but 1 team having 2 legitimate MVP candidates takes votes away from each other.
Yung Baller: player value stats are not a *new* stat. Perhaps new to you, and most transient fans who only know points and assists.

By the way, if you bothered to click the link, you'll see the numbers are current as of games played on April 12, 2008. That's pretty much eons AFTER the Gasol trade. Gasol is +5 for the Lakers. I'm gonna have to pretty much disagree with you that ONE DAY OLD is to be considered outdated.

PP does deserve alot of credit for his role in the miracle turnaround. BUT KG sparked that newly found desire, he insipired all of boston, ive always respected his enthusiasm for the game, he loves it when his team mates do good. he's 1 of my top5 must have teammates not just for his ability but for his leadership, enthusiasm, energy and motivation. So for me Kevin Garnett is at NUMBER 2.

LeChoke really hasn't had ANY impact on the standings, only on the stats sheet ofcourse. ill acknowledge his contributions tho, ill have him at NUMBER 4.

Chris Paul. what can i say.. the next magic?? not really, but on leadership and unselfishness AND passing accuracy he sure is following magics footsteps to success. A breakthrough season? a coming of age season? call it whatever you want cp3 has had an MVP-standard season. too bad kobe is having a better season if not he would be my MVP. So ill have chris paul at NUMBER 3.

Dwight Howard, the start of the season was looking SOLID, to be honest i was scared of the thought superman would become the next shaq and dominate this season. WELL it didnt happen, maybe orlando thought there were only 40 games in the season cos how they fell from 2nd in the east to 'the lower regions' will always remain a mystery for me. And afer that drop they had, dwight howards name was out of MVP talk and to be forever forgotten.. until the all-star weekend. but thats nothin to do with the mvp talk..

so the mvp list should look like;

1. Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles Lakers
2. Kevin Garnett - Boston Celtics
3. Chris Paul - New Orleans Hornets
4. LeChoke James - Cleveland Cavaliers
5. Dwight Howard - Orlando Magic

Kobe is putting up that #? wow to think how hard Lebron was hogging the ball but he is still just inch more than Kobe, wow Lebron, you really got start hogging that shit some more, I don't know how you go over 100%, but you will find a way.

Look at Paul's wow, just proves how Peja and David West is more important than him.

Look man, I am a Lakers fan, but even I have to respect what K.G did, I mean the guy turned the Celtics around and let's not sound like Cavtards who are just all about stats, I honestly think K.G should finish 2nd this year in MVP, cu of his influnce and leadership, but yes Paul Pirece is just as valuble, but he is overlooked cuz he was on the team that sucked last year.

Howard is really underrated, I think he should finish before LeBron this year, but you know the league won't let "Golden Gal" slip of course.

If you go just by this statistic there is not question that Howard is the MVP far and away the best according to this.

If thats the case, and Kobe didn't get it the last 2 years cuz his team wasn't high enough in the Rankings, then he should get it this year over James and Howard. Best in the West means allot this year and Kobe helped his team get there. Even if you are not a Kobe or Lakers fan, you must know he is the MVP this year. All the stats are there and even the best players, coaches and analysts think he should get it. Lets see what happens this year... again!!!!!!!

KOBE 4 MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love people who constantly search for new stats to find out one thing or another. Sorry to disappoint you, but watching games will always stay the best way to determine best players, MVPs, etc.

By the way, your source is outdated. It is, at the very most, pre Gasol trade.
