The Mysteries Of Alfred Hedgehog

I first heard about this series a while back, but I never watched it because I don?t typically care much for ?edutainment?, and even if I did, I didn?t get the network that it aired on. However, I?ve noticed that episodes have been airing on Ion West so I decided to check the series out, and it?s much better than I expected it to be. It?s nice to see a children?s series that encourages kids to think without breaking the fourth wall, and it has them think about things like ball lightning and water spouts. It?s not a great series, by any means; I can?t stand the theme song and, more often than not, the adults in the series are portrayed as being less intelligent than the children. This even applies to their teacher, Mr. Rusard, who is my favorite character in the series and is even my current avatar. If these older characters have lived in Gnarly Woods for years, why are they so unfamiliar with natural phenomena? Mr. Rusard didn?t even know what fireflies were.

It?s unfortunate that it doesn?t seem to be getting a second season, because if they worked on the plots a bit and made the adults more intelligent, I think this would great. Has anybody else seen this show?

I remember when this premiered on Qubo I knew that it was going to make a splash online (read: /b. Actually, don't) for all the wrong reasons. The animation and acting are great, but the plots are too obvious (to everyone except the oblivious adults) to be really interesting. The only time I watched the show was during commercial breaks late at night.

I looked through a few on Youtube once, but there's something about the character designs that just look wrong to me.

Funny thing: when I first heard of the show and googled info on it, I actually found a scan of the series' bible that featured drastically different designs. Kind of storybook-esque with dot-eyes and more animal-like in appearance. Frustratingly, enough, I can't seem to find the thing again.

I don't think it's a bad E/I show, but it's not great either.

My Dad hates the half animal-half human designs. It really bothers him.

I rather like the designs and don’t recall them being “inexpressive”. I’m not even sure what a “dull surprise” look is supposed to look like. I’ve seen over half of the episodes at this point and what you described isn’t jumping out at me.

Here; you have to move your mouse over the square for "Alfred Hedgehog Pitchbook". I think those original designs look far worse than the ones used for the series.
