The Movie Formula: Which are you most tired of?

Remakes are easy money a lot of the time but they are getting annoying.

Rom Coms are just tired now. It's ALWAYS the same story down to the bones and the characters don't even change. They're the same prototype right down to mannerisms. *shakes head*

I agree, Blondie. The "torture porn" sub genre for Horror kind of took over the market for a while. I hope that trend stops since it's not terrible exciting or good.

A 10 minute trailer? Wow. Trailers shouldn't give the movie away. I hate it when you sit down and watch the movie and recognize ALL the good moments from the trailers, plus you can tell when they're coming. I actually skip trailers if I can before I watch a movie. It's the better way to watch something I've found out. Not knowing too much.
 
not sure if this is really a "formula"..but i'm sick of horror movie remakes. Remaking old classic films is annoying. And i hate when foreign horror films that are only a few years old get american remakes
 
Iranian trailers are very funny, they're about 10 minutes long and they give away every single funny scene in a comedy movie so technically you dont have to watch the movie after youve seen the trailer!

I like romantic comedies but they are just getting waaaay to repeptitive, its always about the guy making a bet or being undercover or whatever, like 'shes all that' 'how to lose a guy in ten days' , ... its getting old.
 
Meg Fox was just more eyecandy. Nothing more.

The "Formula" i've started a strong dislike for is the "let's parody all of the movies made in the last year" sh1t that has been being pumped out. Sure, there will be a few laughs here and there, but when these types of movies are made WAY too often, they completely lose their zest. That is, if you ever thought they had zest to begin with.
 
I'm actually not really a romantic. :lol: I, for the most part, don't believe in shipping couples or anything. Yet one of my favorite movies is Love Actually. But that movie's about love, so that's excused.

I'm pretty sure a good number of even the female population's sick of love interests in every movie. But I doubt anything's gonna change anytime soon. I think it all started with trying to bring in females and now it's evolved into getting hot actresses to appeal more to the male audience.

I mean to be completely honest I've never seen the Transformers movie, but I did keep up with the Transformers a bit when I was little. I don't see the point in having Megan Fox in a movie about advanced machinery other than the fact that the girl is many guys' fantasy.
 
THANK YOU, Chris. I tried watching it as well and I gave up after 15 minutes because I just knew what was going to happen and it didn't hold any interest for me. Romantic comedies are the worst. You just know what's going to happen, every single time. My friend was talking about it and I asked her, why did you watch it? And she said, oh, it's for Katherine Heigl. She's my IT girl. And honestly I think that's the only reason why people watch romantic comedies in the cinema, for the actor/actress. Surely you can't be pulled by the story? Unless you just want brainless fun. I don't know.

I mean, not all romantic comedies are like that, some do have a bit of a change (Waitress, for example). And some romantic comedies, you know what's going to happen but they're better than expected (Music & Lyrics). But by and large it's all the same and it's just so boring.

Slightly OT, I hate trailers that give away all the movie's best moments. What's the point of watching it, then?
 
The Nolan brothers are so talented. They're also very brave, they take risks and are of the few who make "darker" movies for big audiences.



Right on! :nod: I like romances, I do, I'm a romantic, always been. But if the movie doesn't need it, then don't force it in. It's that simple.

I don't understand the need to have a couple in every movie, it drains me and it makes me sick. It cheapens the whole experience as well since you can see the play by play of the script putting it together just for the sake of it.
 
^ I flipping adore Chris Nolan. Only the Nolan brothers (I believe his brother Jonathan actually wrote a short story on which Chris based the screenplay for Memento) could come up with something so ballsy and innovative.

And I'm also sick of romantic interests and love triangles. I'd like my movies not to have them if they're used just as a side plot rather than as the main storyline. And there are so many other ways to show the humanity of main characters.

As for whom to blame, I pick the studios. They're probably the ones who demand that love interests be incorporated into scripts to appeal more to the female population. :rolleyes:
 
I just saw the movie [sp]27 Dresses[/sp] and it reminded me of so many romantic comedies. A girl who is unlucky in love is in love with one man who doesn't love her back. All the while she has this physical attraction/hatred for another man and their "hate" turns into fiery passion. In the end she figures out that the man she was in love with (the one that didn't love her is all of sudden in love with her) isn't who she thought he was/turns out he's not what she wanted in the first place. But, by the time she realizes this, the guy that she does love does something stupid to piss her off and then he must confess that he too loves her. He leaves. She chases him. She declares her love for him. And they lived happily ever after :rolleyes:

Now... How many movies do this?
 
Frankly, I am ready for a different type of Horror genre and ready for the films to become scary again. They seem to be moving toward Torture Porn, which isn't horror to me and futher away from what horror really is, like say The Exorcist and Poltergeist. I can't think of a movie in the last few years, that honestly scared the crap outta me, like The Exorcist did. I still have trouble watching that film, when I'm alone. The movies have become to predicatable to me. Hostel, Turistas, Wrong Turn, Wolf Creek, Captivity, they are all the same to me. I just prefer a good ghost story. However, If I find a good movie, that is a throback to my favorite horror genre the 70's/80's, then I'm happy. The Devil's Rejects reminds me of the throwback and while, it's torture and gruesome, the movie itself is in another place, away from the one's I mentioned, like Turistas and Hostel, cause it's actually good.
 
Okay, so you know there's a so called "formula" for almost every genre and even a few universal ones. Problem is, you watch enough movies and you get tired of knowing what's going to happen and how it's going to go down by watching the trailer.

Is it that hard to be original? Probably not, but it rarely gets to the big screen. Some blame the studios, some blame the movie audience, some blame the writers.

I blame everybody.

The other day I went to the theater (to accompany my friend to watch a movie just like the one I'm about to describe) and I saw the trailer for the movie 21. I wanted to see 21 because of Jim Sturgess and because I have already seen a few shows on "real life" story. I thought it would be interesting.

Then I watched the trailer and it was the EXACT, SAME THING every other movie has done. I realized I didn't need to see 21 since I've already seen it hundreds of times.

No spoilers, just describing the trailer I watched, which basically gives it all away ANYWAY.

I already saw it, I tell you. The genius that gets into a mess for money, he wins. Then he must lose the money just so he gets pulled back back into the fold to get it back. All the while there's this girl who is there to provide for him someone to sleep with in the movie's "steamy" and obligatory sex scene. She's even a blonde. :yawn: As per...always.

So I won't be seeing 21. NEXT!

Anyone tired of something (movie wise) or is it just me? :lol:
