The media vs a fair trial.?

I always wondered why the media newshounds refuse to be responsible citizens when it comes to high profile criminal cases. Thanks to the news media, it makes it hard for anyone to get a fair trial, because most people have already made up their minds, before the case even goes to trial. And of course the media always has to sensationalize everything, which makes it just that much harder to find potential jurors, that can keep an open mind, and be impartial. I think the police shouldn't release any info, other than the fact that they do have a suspect in custody, until the trial is over. The publics so-called "right to know" is one thing, but so is a fair trial for the accused. What do you think ?
