the Mazda MPV Mystery..anyone share in this problem? any insights?

Its this 96 Mazda MPV , I have had some since last 5 years. I have learnt to live with this problem albeit very uncomfortably . What happens is 1 out of 5-6 times, the van will NOT start just click-click. Then I just leave it alone and go for a walk. Return back again , and its still click-click. This way I give it a wait for about 15-20 mins , and then it will start . It always starts finally but there seems to be some mechanism that it triggers that makes it behave like that. WHAT SEEMS THE PROBLEM ? Anyone face something like that before ? any suggestions/advise other than take it to the cleaners for a $700 diagnostics and nothing coming from it
