THE LOVELY BONES FILM HAS RECEIVED ITS FIRST REVIEWS AT THE ROYAL CHARITY PERFORMANCE LAST NIGHT
..............apparently its had mixed reviews about the differant story line adaptation from the book to the big screen..missing parts out of the book..and the over reliance of the special effects..personally...i think its always gonna be differant and as others i loved the book but expect it to be differant in the film....i never listen to critics anyway but the postive reviews say its a brilliant film up for mutli oscar /academy nominations and paticullay the performances of saoirse ronan , mark whalberg , rose mciver ,and stanley tucci , are brilliant ...cant wait to see this film!

Its out in uk on janurary 29th !...but out limited viewings usa on december 11th...be interesting to see the viewing public reviews but as i said before never listen to these weird newspaper critics who know nothing ! quite often films are far better than the critics view as its only a selected viewpoint and as usual the public knows best!

Never listened to a critic in my life! How these people are taken at all seriously, considering the very nature of their job, is beyond me. I listen to other fans, but ultimately, I serve the final judgement:D:D

Stephen Fry who was at the gala charity event said the film was "Absolutly riveting and brilliant " even Mark Whalbergs performance was impressive!

Ive seen that one says film is excellent...also seen reviews by Den of geek, and Impact magazine giving excellent reveiws aswell so the boring negative reviews of guardian.mail, and express etc are in a minority..again itll be interesting to see the punters reviews when the film is shown temporarily in usa and then in new zealand in december and i think theyll give it brilliant reviews aswell as long as the people reading the book dont expect the film to be a strict adaption of the book !

Apparently Mark Whalberg s performance is excellent as the father(despite much critisism of this actor on RAB) and they say Rachael Weiszs role as the mother is cut somewhat...the genral consensus is the Stanley Tucci and Soarsie Ronan could be up for nominations !

A few people who are not impressed by the film are saying parts of the book are missing well adaptions to film are always changed and difficult to acheive ..and apparently PJ cut shot scenes out to cut the film time down to 135 mins as too long a film would have been counter productive so hope fully a directors cut on dvd will satisfy the doubters ..as there are a few films which are improved with the directors cuts added on dvd ...aliens , star wars trilogy and many others ...still looking forward to the film even if its half as good as the book will be well worth seeing!

Does anyone take newspaper reviews seriously? Their reviewers tend to have some strange ideas about what makes a good film usually along the lines of "Hur hur hur me like explosions - 5 stars!".

Unless it's Mark Kermode doing the reviewing. ;)

I agree! the film critics pick every fault in a film without looking constructivly at the good points and all films arnt perfect! like music, films are a personal viewpoint and what will please one person will not please another ,this is a very complicated film to make and to simplify it as PJ has done makes sense !

Critics are useless. I can't believe there is anyone who still gives them the time of day. I'm glad I learnt years ago to stop listening to them and get to make up my own mind. Like filmfan7 says, films are all about personal tastes. One person's favourite film will be another's most hated. You can't let other people decide for you when it comes to this type of thing or you miss out on so much.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this film. I adore the book, but I've fully accepted that the film will be different and I'm fine with that. Sometimes what works on page doesn't always translate well to screen and I think the film will be a beautiful story in its own right, and that the performences and the special effects will make it well worth watching if you're open minded enough to accept it won't be exactly like the book. I can't wait to see it. It's so frustrating (but so bloody typical) we've got to wait so long to see it in UK.

I agree with everything you say there , even some of the so called critics are having ago at the the cgi parts , !!the fast camera switching shots(which i think is inivative!) and even mark whalbergs on screen 70s wig! are these people from another planet! why didnt they release the film on the date the girl is murdered december 6th universal in usa and over here ! think that would have been better as the film has been mothballed for months!...also check out the new clip from yahoo showing susan sarrondon (grandma lynns) entry into the salmon house hold ..shes so brilliantly over the top and perfectly cast as the high drinking grandmother in the book!

I have faith in this because of PJ really you only have to watch the extra 2 dvRAB you get in the LOTR sets for each film and many many times he is so passionate about scenes and getting bits in and has to fight against the "dumb down studio executives ideas of where the film should head or play out"

I think the classic has to be they wanted an introduction/full recap of what happened in fellowship of the ring, at the beginning of the two towers soaking up a good chunk of time, and he fought them head on head about that for awhile. Imagine a recap of a film you actually bothered to take notice of what happened rather than the breath taking opening that is the fall and rebirth of Gandalf blended into a dream to skip to Frodo and Sam, madness !

I think TLB will probbably be one of those films youll have to see more than once to appreciate it properly!...often complex multi story plots are not given the benifet of the doubt by film goers when seen initially and again if people reading the book expect the book to be reflected in the film version they will be dissapointed !if it was the film would have been certificated 18+ ! and again i agree with you that possibly PJ might be under pressure by the film executives about film length and cuts so a directors cut may be more postive with the critics!

Rachel Weisz and Mark Wahlberg seem like strange casting decisions but I'll wait and see. When reading the book I saw the parents completely differently. But I'm still looking forward to this.

Cant believe some of the bad reviews on this film....usually the worse the reviews the better the film is to me! still looking forward to it ...despite the negative feed back
