The Life and Death of Peter Sellers

I enjoyed this when I watched a video of it yesterday - it was a good movie :) Geoffrey Rush is terrific is Sellers, who was a troubled, complex man, and he was amusing and funny but he didn't seem to be a very nice person, a bit of an asshole TBH. :( He was horrible to his son and didnt treat some women nicely either :( He got angry with his first wife for having an affair, yet he fancied Sophia Loren and he thought that was alright
For example
he broke all his son's toys when his son added a stripe to his car. He hit his wife, Britt Ekland :(
Charlize Theron looks gorgeous as Ekland though.
I also think he became immersed in the characters he was playing. I liked how he "became" Clouseau on a flight to Rome :D

The most bizarre story I read about Sellers was whilst filiming Bond spoof Casino Royale he refused to film his scenes with Orson Welles. Sellers believed Welles indulged in black magic (Welles was an accomplished magician) and refused to be in the same scenes with him. Sellers was plagued with insecurity and insanely superstitious. Whatever his faults, a true comedy great. He was the ultimate character actor - rarely (or never) did you see Sellers play himself on screen. I think he was one of those actors uncomfortable being himself. He needed to reinvent himself on screen to find his identity.

Good film, very interesting to see how different he was to the loveable old rogue we remember him as. The scene mentioned with his kid was very very sad, what a prat! Trouble with Sellers was he was just a kid himself.
Still, one of the greatest actors in history. A genius in front of a camera.

Peter Sellers:

Wonderful comedian and actor.

Not so wonderful human being...

(mind you, I always find 'the picture in the wallet when he died' anecdote quite moving...)
