I went to a Lawyer asking for advise on a pick up truck. The truck was purchased by my friend in Sept/05 and we both had been making payments on it out of our joint account. He told me it was my truck and also put me down as the beneficiary. The truck was tagged & insured in GA but has been garaged in NC. A year ago he had a stroke which left him paralyzed. He acknowledged to his family that I was to have the truck and they agreed. Then they changed their minds and wanted the truck back. For over a year now, the truck is still sitting in my driveway. When I try to contact them by phone, they ignore me. So I hired a Lawyer, I asked if he could write a letter to the family to come get the truck or release the title so I could tag & insure it here in NC. I already paid the Lawyer $500 to do this. The Lawyer takes it upon himself to write this letter that states that I would be willing to bring the truck to them at their expense and for them to reimburse me my half in which I helped pay on, or for them to release the title and I would pay them half of what my friend paid on it. I did not agree to this. My friend gave me the truck. Why would I have to pay anything other than what I've already paid? His insurance is paying on the balance. The truck will not be paid off until Sept/10 -
So my question is: Why would he write such a letter, send it without my consent. And if he was unsure of the details, Why couldn't he of consulted me, let me proof read the letter before it was placed in the mail? As a result, he has inconvenienced my situation and I never agreed to the terms. The letter itself was poor with misspelled words and I feel it was very unprofessional for what he did. I have called his office and still I have not heard from him. What can I do? Any suggestions?
