The Law on Quad bikes, Help Me!?

hi, im thinking about buying a Quadbike but have no idea what the law is around it, can you ride it on motorways, what licence do you have to hold etc.....

Full car license

It must have: mirrors, number plate, road tax and insurance.

I don't think their is a law on where you can take them but i certainly wouldn't go mine on the motorway, i just ride it about town and on the back roads.
