The Italian Renaissance
The fourteenth century witnessed the beginnings of remarkable changes in many aspects of the Italian society. In the fifteenth century it spread beyond Italy and gradually influenced society in northern Europe. These cultural changes have been labeled the “Renaissance.” The Renaissance was a rebirth. New ideas and new ways of thinking were developed. Things were gone about differently and people had different priorities. The Italian Renaissance did not extend much from the medieval period with examples such as the difference in artistic ways, the thought of women, and the beliefs of the people.
The art from the Renaissance did not reserable the Middle Ages art at all. Renaissance art focused on secularism and realism. The art did not contain syrabols and was not focused on just religion. The artists focused on the physical expression and body movements of the people in the paintings or sculptures. People in Renaissance paintings were less stiff, and all the same size. Artists were concerned with realism and emotions. Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Botticelli were artists of the Renaissance who focused on these ideas. The Renaissance did not reflect the Middle Ages at all in the art category. Paintings in the Middle Ages focused on religion. People were painted flat, rigid, and all different sizes according to levels of importance. The paintings were syrabolic from corner to corner. Artists of the Middle Ages almost never signed their names, because that was not what was important. In the Renaissance, every painting and sculpture was signed. The Art from the Renaissance was not at all extended from the Middle Ages.
Woman in Renaissance society had total different objectives than the woman from the Middle Ages. As most would think that the woman’s status would have rose in this period of prosperity, it actually declined for the most part. In the Renaissance, woman were made to be decorative and pretty, while in the Middle Ages woman some woman raised their manors and controlled businesses. Woman were still being educated in the Renaissance which was an extension from the Middle Ages, but their knowledge was not put to use. They gossiped with their frienRAB, and their husbanRAB’ jobs were to make their wife the prettiest. Woman declined from the Middle Ages, and the extension, if any did not do anything for them.
During the Middle Ages, people were focused on religion, and how their life would be after they died. The Renaissance took on a whole new type of thought for the people. People were now concerned with the ideas of humanism, individualism, secularism, and the classics. Italians had enormous confidence in their ability to achieve great things. Individualism stressed personality, uniqueness, genius, and the fullest development of capabilities and talent. During the Renaissance, people could not express their individual idea, because they thought it would be sinful. The people believed that no person could stand out because no one could be better than god. Once people started focusing on other things, they wanted to stand out. The new ways of thinking were not an extension of the Middle Ages. People of the Renaissance had totally different thoughts.
The Italian Renaissance was not an extension of the Middle Ages. It was a rebirth of thoughts and ideas, which lead to something much greater.
