the iphone is a scam?! i have tmobile who carries it but how do i get it for 99$?!?

i just signed a contract with tmobile and they support the iphone! except something about unlocking it? which im sure i can figure out? buttttt everywhere i went they ask for 500$ wtfffff? any tips?
