The Hobbit and Silmirillion the movies?

Since the end of LOTR trilogy is coming to an end next month on the big screen:cry: .......I wondered if Peter Jackson or New Line entertainment have any plans in producing the Hobbit and Silmirillion to the big screen. I mean prequels are quite popular at the moment e.g. star wars etc. However it would be nice to see the back story of LOTR being brought to life on the big screen and it would be a great companion to a already fantastic trilogy. Plus the trilogies themselves would make much more sense with the Hobbit and the Silmirillion on it side.

Doesnt anyone think its a good idea?

Okay maybe not, its a dumb idea im sad:( :o
 
;1504487']I'd like to see The Hobbit brought to film, but I saw an interview with Peter Jackson, in which he said that he had had enough of Middle earth, and would not want to make the Hobbit.

Its a pity, as it would have been great if a Hobbit film could use the same sets (Bag End etc) as the LOTR trillogy.

Perhaps Mr Jackson could produce this time around, and let someone else direct.


I havent read the Silmirillion (had to cut and paste that, I can't even pronounce it, let alone spell it) but from what I understand its not a story in its own right, more a collection of back stories, that were edited together by tolkein's son. Not sure if it could be turned into a movie, they said that about LOTR, though didn't they?
 
Well they could at least turn Silmirillion into a mini tv series or something like that if its just a couple of back story.............But from what i have heard of LOTR Silmirillion actually teels the a story of the dark lord who took the ring etc and the story of the elves.........so it is possible.

Such a shame Peter wont make the Hobbit:( .

However out of all the directors out there......who would you choose to make the Hobbit?
 
I think someone should make the hobbit have never read that other one, p.s how do you pronounce it?
As for which director that should make it I just cant think its all to much and my head may explode
 
I always like The Hobbit, as a novel, much more than the Lord Of The Rings, so I wouldn't mind seeing it made into a live action movie.

The Silmarilion could be harder as it's a collection of short stories set in Middle Earth, but maybe something could be made of it.

The novel I would like to be made into a movie the most is Clive Barker's Imajica. Always thought it would be impossible to film, but if they can turn The Lord Of The Rings into a movie....

Would like to see a HOBBIT movie, because Bilbo was a quirky funny character and could imagine quite a bit of humour in it also!
 
I think too much happens in the Silmirillion to make it into a film and there are just too many characters that it would lose 99% of the audience.

How about a "Hurin- Turin Huor - Tuor" film - just as epic as LOTR but a bit more ambivalent, tragic and also uplifting.
 
The story of Feanor making the silmarils, Melkor stealing them with the help of Ungoliant, the Noldor swearing an oath to get them back, plus the huge battles that take place in trying to recover them would make the Silmarillion a fantastic movie.

I think the focus of the film would have to be more on the elves rather than men, as the elvin characters seem to have a bit more substance to them in the book.

I also read somewhere (think it was teletext) that Peter Jackson would be keen to film a version of the Hobbit, if the studio could gain the rights to the story.
 
Many years ago when I after I'd read LOTR for the fifth time, I tried to read the Silmirillion...

The Silmirillion is simply a collection of stories in a highly condensed form - even the Hobbit & LOTR are there - unfortunately, it's not quite a readable as LOTR. The only way I can describe it is -

If you've read both The Hobbit & LOTR, then I think you'll understand when I say -

The Silmirillion is to LOTR, as LOTR is to the Hobbit.

Go ahead, if you feel that LOTR is a bit shallow...

Personally, I prefer to stay with LOTR and watching the extended editions of the films.
