The History Boys

I'm seeing an advance screening of the film next Tuesday in Manchester. I haven't seen the play and I don't know much about the plot. However, I understand it's from Alan Bennett so I trust it will be good.

The play is fantastic; possibly the finest Bennett has written. It'll be interesting to see how many of the f*cks and c*nts make it to the film script, though... ;)

I saw the film this evening and I have to say it is was absolutely superb. Brilliant on all fronts - acting, direction, soundtrack. Spot on. And yes, there are a few of the "swears" still in there.

My OH worked on the play earlier in the year and said it was fantastic, which is quite a compliment as working in theatre you see so much stuff, good and bad.

the film version has been dumbed down for the yank market with the 80s pop tunes thrown into it like a video

The Telegraph are organising a free screening on Tuesday. I'm not really a fan of Alan Bennett, so will this be worth seeing?

I think so. As I wrote in an earlier post...

Enjoy!

I saw the play in New York last month and so can't wait to see how it transfers to screen - so glad it has the original cast in, they are all amazing! Hope it does well.

Yeah, I have. As I've said in two previous posts on this thread I went to see it at a recent preview screening (with a friend who is in the industry) and I have to say it is was absolutely superb. Brilliant on all fronts - acting, direction, soundtrack. Spot on. And yes, there are a few of the "swears" still in there

Well worth watching.

This is such a mish mash an a truely awful film ,

it will never be seen by the many, except a handful of the actors parents who have posted crass.. over the top rave reviews here ,

"Loved the this film to bits !"

like you would do if your kiRAB were in a duff film ..lol..lol

dont get me wrong

ok on stage an had pretty young teen boys for the Yank critics ....who fawned over them ..
Young teen uk Schoolboys all lusting an a few wanting to be taken by a much gay older man ...:Yeah right ,
an the majority film critics loved it ,OF COURSE ..

if it was a girl school , dead in the water ..lol
This was said regarding the US critics love of it ,...
it WAS a good live show , but not worth all the awarRAB , No where near as many said ....

Well, at least the script (which in my opinion deserved every award it got) was literate. Would that we could say the same about your post.

I love intelligent and witty films but this bored the pant's off me.
It tries far too hard to be clever but I thought it was pretentious drivel.
All the pupils seemed to have the same personality and all spoke like junior Alan Bennetts.
The gym master was quite funny though.
