My mom is paying for the whole wedding by herself and doesn't make that much money. The groom and I have no money for a rehearsal dinner. The groom's parents said they aren't paying for anything for our wedding.

You don't have to have a rehearsal dinner. When I was younger and everyone was getting married, some rehearsal "dinners" were as simple as dessert & coffee. If you have a small bridal party, you can do it with very little money. You could even invite them over to your home after the rehearsal and serve something simple - make cupcakes and serve punch or iced tea or whatever.

Skip the dinner - just have the rehearsal..........maybe have some beverages and finger foods available where the rehearsal is and socialize for a bit afterwords

The expense and stress that people go to for weddings amazes me. And you are letting your mother go into debt over this (you said she is paying for everything and really can't afford it) - oh, and what are YOU paying for?

I got married very simply with a few family and close friends. It was a beautiful day

I would rather that the money that would have been used for some kind of protocol and over the top affair be used for starting my life with my husband.

But that's just me
