I had a green terror cichlid and they are a lot of fun to watch. I would recommend that you get a green terror cichlid for your 50 gallon tank. Actually you could probably fit two or three green terrors. The rule of thumb is one inch of a fish for one gallon of a tank, but that is not very efficient. I recommend maybe three gallons for every inch of fish. The larger the wandering room in the fish tank the larger your fish will grow. Therefore, two green terrors or even three will grow very quickly. If you don't want green terrors I recommend bumblebee cichlids, midas cichlids, oscars, or firemouths.
