...your non convicted? Three years ago i was arrested for aggravated assualt, ive been in college ever since. I am scared because i did a backround check on myself and my file looks awfull, it states every detail about what i did, i realize that i made an awfull mistake, but i want to move on and become a constructive citizen. I was 20 years old at the time and now im almost 23, i was never convicted, but if you run a backround check it still says charged with aggravted assualt including every detial about the event, if i was an employer i wouldnt hire that person even if they were not convicted...so i feel that society has no feelings for forgivness and their to harsh on someone who has good intentions but make one terrible mistake, they say innocent until proven guilty, but my backround check still makes me look like a monster..
i am trying to get my file expunged, im hoping it will work out, if it doesnt i am considering to leave the country so i would not be frowned upon.. i realze what i did was wrong, but i feel it is harsch to put me in such a situation where i am in a massive disadvantage... they say on a application , have you ever been convicted of a crime, although i feel this really means have you been charged with something..because ive been turned downed by employers twice, they loved me after the interview but after a backround check i never recieved an update.. so like i said if the government will not give me a chance to excell, i will leave our country and recieve the right of return in Isreal, cuz i am Jewish... if i lose my case for an expungment. my lawyer says i will most probally win and i deserve a second chance, but if i lose , i am leaving the united states, so i can excell elsewhere. if you are a lawyer or a job employer or even some one who has been in my shoes i would greatly appreciate your wisdom,,,, dont tell me im a dangerous person and i deserve my wrap, because i am good person in the end.....Thank you alll very much

I've got some sympathy for your position, but just to be clear, this has nothing to do with 'the government' being too harsh. The justice system merely lists the offenses, it is up to the employer how they deal with those.

Just because an employer did a background check and found this offense does not mean that is why they turned you down. It could have played a part, or it could have been irrelevant and you were turned down for other reasons.

I suspect you'll be shocked by the lack of opportunity in Israel, as well as the security issues, but if that is your choice, go for it. You should know that many jobs which are related to security issues will require security clearances and background checks for new immigrants. You may have the right of return for Israel, but that doesn't necessarily mean there is a job waiting for you. For one thing, how is your Hebrew?
