religion to dictate morality to us? Discuss.
I am making note of the wikileaks controversy, actually.
I dont think those people at wikileaks should be prosecuted or persecuted, or be forced on the run and certainly not be treated like a terrorist. They likely did nothing legally wrong. We granted the rights of speech and of the media, and we wish now to take it back. Its wrong. And by illegalizing wikileaks we are setting a precedent for further infringement on our constitutional rights.
However. I do think those people at wikileaks should quit. Why? Because they are putting peoples lives in danger. Its egocentric. Its psychopathic. To place ones own career, beliefs, above others lives. Of course the media would continue to exist. But let us not force the government between a rock and a hard place, shall we? where they must decide between infringing on our rights or infringing on someone elses rights to life.
I think the people at wikileaks should stop, for moral reasons. And their "rights" should not be the basis for their continued efforts. They are not doing the *greater* right thing, simply because its not illegal.
I am here wondering how many people in our moral and civil society who preach "we can govern ourselves", the atheists and anarchist, the moral-subjectivists, etc... how many of us would stoop to murder or rape or theft, by choice, if it suddenly wasnt illegal.
Why is it society and government must dictate right and wrong in order for people to abide?
