Here is the question from my book:
The colonists' ideas about traditional English rights ____ with their understanding of Enlightenment political philosophy.
A) had nothing to do
B) accorded
C) clashed
D) none of the above
I'm not looking for the answer to the multiple choice, but an explanation of the concepts. (if there even is a concept... if the answer really is A or D, then I guess it doesn't really matter.)
My textbook is very vague about what exactly the 'Enlightenment' was/is, so please forgive me if I seem really ignorant xD
As far as I know, 'the enlightenment' was just a philosophy popular during 1500-1800 where people decided to be more rational.
But what does this have to do with traditional English rights?
If anyone would care to explain the connection between these two, I would be very grateful.
