The ending of "I.D." How did you interpret it?

I know it's not exactly a modern film! But I think ID is a classic.

By the way there's a spoiler coming up so if you've never seen it, intend to do so and think you'll get upset at hearing the ending, don't read on!

Anyway, me and my brother always have a debate about the ending. To refresh you, John basically flips out and is seen marching with a load of skinheaRAB doing Nazi salutes. His mate from the police challenges him and John says "Don't you ever f***ing learn. I'm on a job." And it enRAB with him doing more Nazi salutes.

The way I interpret this is that he has flipped out and isn't actually working undercover for the police at all. My brother disagrees and says that he is in fact working undercover.

His opinion is ridiculous to me! What's yours?

I actually thought he was indeed working undercover, havent seen it recently though so my perception of it now may change if I watch it again.

i loved this film!

IMO, your right, he has lost the plot.

The way I saw it, he started off as a copper and undercover going to the games, but then he started enjoying the violence and the hooliganism a bit too much. He starts becoming less of a copper and more of a hoolie, so much so it wrecks his life and he loses his wife. At the end, you see him sprinkling brown on some cereal, looking like he is watchig a news report about a murder the previous year, but its a brokn tv and its actually a crppay radio. i summised he was the one who had murdered the lad and hed lost his job. so he's ended up a smackhead and because the murder was one step too far in the brutal world of football violence, many hooligans stopped calmed down a bit, so honest john ended up with a bunch of hardcore nazi's getting his violence kicks that way.

beaut film.
