I got super super sick (some limited organic brain damage) about two years ago and lost my job after an unsuccessful attempt to return to it (didn't have the experience to know what I could and couldn't do). I've done some part-time work in the interim, but just got a new job that's a little bit of a step up (was doing DNA work, this will be protein) from my previous one, so I'm going to be training pretty intensely.
What I'm worried about is adjusting to full-time work again after two years of doing nothing. The long-term effects of my illness are almost all completely controlled with medication, but I'm concerned about the psychological obstacles more than anything else. Since I sustained some brain damage, some of my problems involve concentration and memory - I've been stable for the last year or so, so I've gotten the hang of using my new, crappier brain.
Does anyone have any insight into the process of going back to work after a major illness in a completely new job? I'd appreciate some advice.
