John Prescotts son David has lost the selection to be the next MP for the Hull East constituency, beaten by Karl Turner. Why, if Prescott had been such a good MP and saviour to the local area was his son turned down? This was to have been Johns icing on the cake as he rumbled off on the Euro gravy train of 'retirement' when he finishes at the start of the next election. What on earth has prompted the labour party to slap them down like this?
Nice one Hilary!
Made my day too Wacky + a star - how kind!

Well I might start believing there's a god (not) what a great result, just the thought of another Prescott in government is enough to put me off my breakfast.
Can you blame them would any party really want another embarrassment such as the father? the risk is to great love it.

Not keen on political dynasty so I am glad the son has lost and a fresh face comes in.

Prescott senior was a "slug".

Had a enough of Dynasty with the Bush's in America, George Senior, George W, Jeb Bush (Florida).

The New Labour party are strangely more like the Conservative party in a way, doesnt want to be tainted by "old Labour".

Two reasons really I think:
1. John probably was a good MP in his day, but his 'old fashioned' ways, his belligerence and his ability to put his foot in it mean that he has now become a bit of an embarrassment to the Labour Party.

2. Just because your dad was the MP it doesn't give you the right to be the prospective parliamentary canidate. Even if John were a perfect saint that doesn't mean that David is up to the job. He was beaten by a better person. Period.

Dear Lord! Look at America and the Bush dynasty. Thank goodness we've learned something from George and George Dubya!

John is "old left", they are not welcome in the party any more. I am surprised that they didn't parachute a trendy wendy young woman from the Home Counties into the seat, it's a safe Labour one, odd that.
