Could Marx be a historical materialist and at the same time a dialectican?

Could Hegel be a historical idealist and at the same time a dialectican?
As far as I understand the dialectic it is characterized by the notion that there is a continual feedback and mutual interaction among the various sectors of society. That is, one sector of society, for instance the economy cannot be reduced to epiphenomena determined by another (for instance the idea system).

Being a dialectican, a term that Hegel never used, is simply recognizing the interaction of thesis and antithesis to produce the synthesis. So both of your questions can be answered with a "yes".

In Marx's case he was looking at reality from the physical side while in Hegel's case he was looking at reality from its forms.
