They've shown that they are capable of targeting handfuls of private citizens for putative taxes, as if there had been a trial for criminal behavior. They could just as easily tax any individual or group of Americans for any reason, including "wearing the color red on a a friday". Its arbitrary, targeted taxation, and not American.
 
85 republican congressmen voted for the bill. Stick to your guns and make sure they don't get re-elected.

This tax is no more arbitrary than capitol gains tax (targets investors) or a tax on alcohol (targets people who drink). Why the sudden outrage at targeting a specific group of people?
 
I don't disagree with the spirit of what you wrote... but....

The government owns 80% of AIG. Think of it as a management decision, which happens to be politically expedient.
