I thought I'd start a thread. I know its released on 12th December.

I've not been to the cinema in years but might make an effort for this. Anyone planning on going?
 
Blimey nothing's sacred these days is it. No, but learning there's such a thing as this 'new' version has inspired me to dig out the 'old' version and give it another spin.

I notice from the trailer that Giants Stadium goes up in smoke.

One can only hope that the Jets were in town at the time. ;)
 
It's getting a lot of advertising on local radio at the moment, but when the aRAB are pushing it as "THE SPECIAL EFFECTS EVENT OF THE DECADE" my alarm bells start ringing........add to that the fact that they had to do extensive reshoots after initial completion of the filming and I think I've got a pretty good idea of how this is going to turn out.
 
Come on, how could you NOT love it?? Keanu Reeves is doing a 'dramatic' voice and everything!!
 
Must admit that I'm not a big fan of the original - it was watchable but far too much of its time (stiff dialogue, equally stiff acting, etc). Keanu can't make be any worse in the role he's playing. :)

So I'm kind of looking forward to seeing the remake.
 
i saw the trailers and it looks terrinle to me
but then again the original was made at a time where the telling of a story was more important
 
The original is hardly a cinema classic, although it's a well respected sci-fi film and dealt fairly intelligently with contemporary issues (in a paranoid Cold War era) as opposed to just being a monster movie like The Thing From Another World (made at the same time) which deserved a modern remake, brilliantly done by John Carpenter.

However, I'm not optimistic that a remake of TDTESS is going to be any good...
 
i disagree !!!...although the origional is dated its a classic 50s scifi movie and i hope the remake lives up to the origional ..as for the thing from another world that is another classic and the john carpenter remake is good aswell !!!the problem with remakes is that the special effects swamp the film and that overshadows the storyline !!!... hope it dosent happen this time!!
 
I'm not usually a fan of remakes but I'll forgive them this one as the original is a few generations old now and has dated quite badly. They showed the trailer for this when I went to see Dark Knight and to be fair it looked really good. Here's hoping. Shame old Pinocchio is in tho :(
