Is anyone else excited/anxious about this ace book being made into a film?

I believe it is being directed by Ron Howard with Tom Hanks as Robert Langton.

I do love the book, though I am doubtful to how well it will come accross on screen without seeming like a history documentary with a dodgy chase in it!
 
Well first off let me say I just got back from seeing national treasure, now it's no Da Vinci Code, but what a movie! Go see it, it will whet your appetite for how good DVC might be...!

I too am doubtful. I (like the rest of the world it would seem) was fascinated by the book, but some thing really should stay unchanged! I mean the book is more of a textbook than an adventure novel (hence Brown being sued...), and doubtful as I am, National Treasure presented all the historical info in a very audience friendly fashion, it COULD work...

But, Tom hanks? He is a great actor, and has star quality, the only real problem i have with him is that he doesnt look like Langdon should, and he's a bit old too... otherwise, not bad...

Well, go see National treasure to reassure you that it CAN be done:)
 
I thought the book was brilliant and am definately looking forward to the film coming out. Not sure if I'd have picked Tom Hanks as the main role - maybe because he's a bit too well known.

Definately recommend the book to anyone.
 
Yes, I agree Tom Hanks is too well known though physically I would think he'd fit the bill. I was reading DVC last night and the descirption partially fitted him.



H'es being SUED? hOW AND by whom?
 
I've just ordered this and Angels and Demons from Play. Not usually my type of book (prefer George R.R. Martin, Robin Hobb, that genre) but this book always seems to be in the top seller's list and after seeing this thread thought I'd give it a go.

Is there an order which they should be read in?
 
The film could work very well, if made properly. It would be too easy to gloss over the important background history of the story, and even easier to clog the film up with it and make it plod along.

Not sure about Hanks in the role, but he is a very adaptable actor and no doubt will pull it off with style.

I'm sure that any DVD commmentary of the film will have the most facts of any film!

I would recommend the book to anyone, it is a cracking read, as are Dan Brown's other books, esp. 'Angels and Demons', the first book to feature Langdon.
 
I've started to read the book, it's good so far. But i've known for sometime about certain banned gospels that paint a different picture of Jesus and his followers. The film might actually be good. But if it can survive in the Bush version of America is another matter, let alone legal wrangling over who wrote what first.
 
I read the book earlier in the year and have somehow missed the controversy that is obviosuly surrounding it, so thanks for this thread! I read the book assuming it was a work of complete fiction, and I must say I am have taken great amusment this morning in the fact that others may have taken it a little more seriously.

Looking forward to the film, even if we do have to put with Tom Hanks.
 
Why not make it with UK money? It's not like it neeRAB US locations, and the book is surely good enough for a backer to consider the film to be profitable without the US market. Anyone in the US who distributes it will find a market ... unless it's censored or lawyer'd to death , and, well, that says so much about freedom and tolerance it's worth the wind-up.
 
My sister is reading that, so I am pushing her along so I can get to it!

Its funny, my friend ironically said that this book is a mind washing cult. Heh heh.
 
I think it would be better as a blockbuster TV series rather than a film.
there are enough twists in this book to end every episode with one.
To try and cram it into a 2 hour film means that some stuff is going to have to fall by the wayside or be rushed through.

I am not the first person to think the book would make a good TV series, apparantly they asked the author if they could make it into the next series of 24, but he said no.
 
The book (in fact all of his books) are *so* badly written with plots full of holes. As I was reading them, it became obvious he was actually writing synopsies for the films.
 
I can't help but think that the end of the movie will be compromised.

I don't think the Bible Belters in the USA can cope with something like this at all.

I think they'll finish up the movie with a 'suggestive' ending...maybe at Rosslyn.

I also agree that Tom Hanks is a poor choice for RL. I don't mind Hanks, but I cannot see him as Langdon.
 
I soooo agree that DB is writing film scripts. Especially, 'Angels and Demons'. I mean the Carmalengo, the helicopter and all that...it's sooo Hollywood.

Enjoyed the books though, great stories. But movies all the same.
