Hello everyone,
I am not sure if this post belongs here, but this is in regard to getting a new phone, so I will post here...
I am looking for a new phone, but worried about the cancellation cost should I cancel the contract during the "buyer's remorse" period--after I have accepted the phone, but before I would get nailed with the hefty early termination fee. I had a Cingular LG C1500 which I had returned within 30 days. Before I had returned the phone, I had asked the rep at Cingular how much my total bill would be. He said about $50. I gently had to remind the rep that I got my local landline service from SBC and that the contract stated in writing that the $35 activation fee would be refunded. He came back with an offer to buy the phone outright if I stayed with them, a $64 credit.
I mulled this over for another day, but ultimately declined the offer.
When I closed the account, they totaled up my usage, and the bill magically totaled $48.
My question: I am still looking for a good phone deal. If any of you have experience with Cingular: will it always cost you around US $50 to cancel, no matter what?
Two factors ultimately broke the deal for me:
The phone was too small and hard for me to hold.I was scared off by a two-year committment.
There is also another twist: I still need a phone. Unfortunately, I can't easily get to a store and see a phone before I buy it (I am disabled and don't drive.) Ideally, were I to do this over, it would be better for me to try to get to a store to "try before you buy." I do know from experience that I will avoid flip phones like the LG.
I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on the topics I have raised. Thanks much for your input!
