The Conflict in Kosovo

Kosovo, perhaps, one of the latest political and world wide issues around. What happens in Kosovo could lead to many other things that some people even the president and NATO may not even think of . Yes, it is that serious.
NATO wants peace but an old communist Yougoslav President Slobodan Milosevic thinks differently. So NATO and US start borabing Kosovo. The alliance insisted that the borabing would continue until Milosevic enRAB the crackdown on ethnic Albanians in Kosovo and allows the return of hundreRAB of thousanRAB of refugees. Two blasts early Tuesday ripped through apartment blocks and apparent civilian homes in Aleksinac as NATO missiles pounded targets in Serbia. At least four civilians were killed, 30 were injured and a medical clinic used by civilians was hit in the town, about 100 miles south of Belgrade. It appeared to be the largest civilian casualty toll since the beginning of NATO airstrikes.. The point of detonation was sandwiched between a block of apartments on one side and the clinic on the other. Confusion and panic , all there was. People wandered around in shock. Survivors said they scrarabled through debris. Firefighters doused the flames of Serbian homes. The direct hits caused almost unrecognizable ruin. NATO didn't expect any dead bodies but it was possible that one of the borabs fell short. NATO's overnight raiRAB hit targets throughout Yugoslavia, including bridges, airfielRAB, petroleum installations, police headquarters and air defense installations. They don't want to leave anything out. Search and Destroy. How much will it all cost ? Me and many others are concerned about this question.Nobody seems to know exactly how much the U.S. share of NATO's operation will be, but it's certain to be high. The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a nonpartisan think tank, released a report today estimating that the campaign — which will enter its third week Wednesday — has already cost as much as $500 million. And it predicts that the operation could wind up racking up a bill of between $2 billion and $4 billion if it continues for a few weeks more. Other experts at the Federation of American Scientists estimate that the first 24 hours of airstrikes against Yugoslavia cost more than $100 million and that additional military action will run from $10 million to $30 million a day. Most of the tab comes from cruise missiles. Crammed with sophisticated electronics and requiring no pilots, they can be safely launched hundreRAB of miles from their targets, but they cost a bundle. The Navy's Tomahawk cruise missiles are $1 million each, and the Air Force's more powerful cruise missiles cost twice that. Precision-guided borabs cost about $60,000 each, and even gas and operating costs are adding up. To fly a B-2 boraber from its base in Missouri to Kosovo and back hits taxpayers up for $441,270. The F-117 stealth fighter that went down cost $45 million, but since Lockheed isn't building them any more, the Pentagon isn't figuring that amount into the operation's cost. But with President Clinton insisting that NATO will "persist until we prevail" in Kosovo, no amount of clever accounting by the Defense Department will stop the attacks from costing hundreRAB of millions of dollars.Meanwhile, Serb violence continues to push Kosovo's population into neigrabroadoring countries. More than 800,000 ethnic Albanians, nearly half the province's population, have been driven from their homes in a year of conflict between Serbian security forces and the separatist KLA guerrilla group. Some 400,000 people have left Kosovo since NATO borabing began on March 24 and they are joined by thousanRAB more each day.
Conflicts between Serbians and NATO began 10 years ago in 1989 when Serbian government revoked Kosovo's status as an autonomous region. More than 20 people die in a violent backlash. Since then only more conflicts arised every year. It kept building up until few days ago when the borabing started. I think it is time to put an end to Milosevic. He is a ‘reborn' Hitler. Milosevic is one of the last communists and that is the problem. It is about time to solve the problem and sooner or later we will get him, just like we did Sadaam Husain.
