The Cleveland Show gets a second season pickup

Ariana Huffington playing a cartoon character? Interesting. I think she should play the maladjusted non-human sidekick which is part of the Seth McFarlane formula. Given that she's connected to the Democrats, maybe she could play a female Francis the Mule (just change the "i" in "Francis" to an "e", and she'd be golden). And she could go around braying annoyingly and kicking people who don't agree with her. It'd be totally typecasting.

(Yes, I don't like Arianna Huffington. It's not political. I just think she's a jerk).

I still contend that Seth is over extending himself with the animated domcoms, and by working on 3 series simultaneously, the quality of least least 1 of them is bound to suffer (if that hasn't happened already).

I still can't get excited The Cleveland Show. It just doesn't sound very good to me. Now, I could be proven wrong about this, but if these latest Family Guy episodes are any indication, I don't see that happening.

It's because animated shows have longer development cycles, they need to know right away.

This is most definitely a sign they're canning Sit Down Shut Up, since this is their replacement programming for it.

It's actually not uncommon at all. Quite a few animated series these days have two seasons in production before the first episode even airs.

Eh, why am I not surprised?

To be honest, Fox has made some pretty bad decisions over the past few years, canning Futurama and keeping Simpsons on the air when it's way past its prime, renewing King of the Hill so many times it's not funny, and now signing a two season deal for a show that hasn't even premiered, and which I don't see doing very well.

I wasn't calling this bad, I'm saying renewing a show for a second season when it hasn't even premiered might not be such a smart idea, especially when it's not particularly promising looking (IMHO).

And I wasn't referring so much to King of the Hill being renewed as I was the Simpsons/Futurama ordeal. It's just...well, they keep renewing King of the Hill so much, it's falling into the same trap as Simpsons.

Yup. Another example, which I've mentioned before, and which I'll never forget: The Barnyard TV series was in pre-production even before the theatrical film was released. (That's over two years, people!)

This isn't too surprising. Given that Seth has two shows on Fox and is one of the most highly paid producers in Hollywood, it's not shocking that Fox has total faith in the new show as well.

How was renewing The Simpsons over Futurama a bad idea? The Simpsons is a cultural phenomenon that is internationally popular and earns Fox lots of money each year. Futurama would never be able to achieve the same success as The Simpsons even if Fox treated it better.

Because Futurama has proven through the huge offer Comedy Central gave to get the rights to broadcast it, not to mention the success of the DTV's that it deserves a return, Simpsons on the other hand has been steadily digging away at its own grave since season 12 started. Yes it'll still make big bucks, but it's the show's time to go, which Fox, like many fans, are unwilling to accept.
