The Care Bears Movie Discussion

Ok well I just watched all three movies last night, its been a while since I've seen them. I have to say they were pretty good for animated 80's movies. Any one else remember these? Grumpy was my favorite out of the films, he made the best expressions for every situation he was in and he wasn't afraid to say what was on his mind, like when BraveHeart was saying in Adventures in WonderLand that he thinks there's a giant here and Grumpy says what makes you think that? All sarcasticly, yet the big fruite didn't get it :p
I liked the songs too, the animation in the films makes me really miss 2D animation :(

Saw all three myself a couple of years back.

I think the first is technically the best, even if it's also the most blatant toy commercial (introducing the Care Bear cousins). It had a pretty good villain and animation, too. Gotta love the chase scene where Nicholas has gone completely freakin' nuts.

The second is probably technically the worst, but it's still my favorite. The animation takes a noticeable hit, but the soundtrack is much better, and the whole thing has a rather strange atmosphere to it. Plus, the ending credit sequence is possibly the most inexplicably sad things I've ever watched, especially with "Forever Young" playing.

The third, while lacking most of the feel of the first two, is also pretty dang good. Smaller, more developed cast, some awesome sequences like the Big Red Rotten Robots, and still a pretty good soundtrack. Though I guess my one problem is that it feels less like a movie and more like a really long episode of the second TV series.

I also saw the movie for the new series, but while I actually like the new series, this movie fell pretty flat. The CG animation is dull and lifeless, and it was completely lacking in terms of "epic" moments like the original three.

I think I only seen the first one. If I have seen the other two it has been so long I had completely forgotten about them. I liked the first one when I was younger. I remember I saw it on Toon Disney about 7 or 8 years ago and still thought it was okay. I tried watching it again about a year ago and I really thought it was kind of bland.

The first movie is the best. It reflected what the Care Bears, Grumpy Bear is the best Care Bear ever, the one who has the most realistic view of reality.

What about the two tv specials, what did you think of them? Granted the animation quality is poor in comparison to the movies, but they were good too.

I liked Grumpy Bear, as he typically added a touch of lemon to the gang's overall sweetness, but looking back, I kind of liked Braveheart Lion also, because he was a wacky, nutty goofball. Sort of a cross between Ted Baxter and Zap Brannigan.

It's kinda a testament to his character that the new series' version of Grumpy heavily resembles the classic version.

Anyway, I remember liking the Nutcracker one, especially for the train sequence. Though I always kinda hated how the Care Bears are reduced to damsels in distress by the end. That also bugged me about the second movie, even if both cases make for some good Nightmare Fuel in terms of what exactly the villains had planned for the pastel heroes.

I can't remember what the other one was, though.

No, but I did know that Cree Summer did the voice of Dawn in CBM1 and Kristi in CMB2.

Which is actually pretty crazy for this Karas fan. I know she's done lots of cartoon voices, but knowing she voiced Yurine is pretty surprising.

From the Care Bears Countdown to the Karas Count Up.:D

Cree Summer also voiced a guest character, a little girl named Gay (yes, that was actually her name) in one episode of The Care Bears Family series, "The Big Star Round-Up".

The only special I can think of is the NutCracker Suite. That one was my favorite :D
Its hard finding that one any where, when I do its price is up more than any other Care Bears movie for some reason :( Or else I'd buy it. I agree with you about Grumpy Bear, every one else in the Care Bear world is always so smiling and cheerful, Grumpy Bear, yes is the most real one there. If some one in the care bear family says some thing stupid he's normally the one to point it out to them, even though they won't get it :p
Even in the new series he was the best, him and that villain guy. They always made me laugh the most. I wanted a team up between those two but alas it never happend :(

I find it kinda awesome how the new series actually recycled the plot of an old DiC episode, but turned the finale around.

The plot is basically the same in both versions: Cheer Bear wants to cheer Grumpy up, by any means necessary. The original episode ended with Grumpy finally cheering up because Cheer "didn't give up on him", and while the execution was adorable, the problem is it feels like they were saying it's you can cheer someone up simply by harassing them.

The new episode ended with the lesson that you can't force someone to be happy, or expect that they can be cheered up by the same things that make you happy. Which I feel was a decidedly more realistic ending (though the original is still adorable).

And yeah, Grumpy is actually kinda badass, if you think about it. It played baseball with a lightning bolt in the DiC series, built a Star Trek-issue transporter in the first movie, and in the new series, he's a genius inventor with the single most broken tummy symbol power. You'd think he'd have been the textbook example for "The Complainer is Always Wrong" shtick, but they almost always managed to avoid that stereotype.

And that's why, to me, he'll always be the best character on the show (though I still have a soft spot for Brightheart and Swiftheart).

Grumpy is definitely an irreplaceable part of the series in all its incarnations. Brave Heart was also always a lot of fun, as well as Lotsa Heart Elephant; it's a shame they seem to have done away with the cousins in recent times...

I also liked Billie Mae Richards (aka Rudolph) as Tenderheart and as Bright Heart Raccoon in the series; she really gave her characters a down-to-earth sound that helpep bring me in.

Lastly, I'm just sorry Mr. Beastly never made it into any of the movies; I always loved him in the show. I suppose he was kinda incarnated into the Rat King of the Nutcracker special, same actor and all, but not really the same feel.

Actually, the Tweedles in Adventure in Wonderland were pretty much Mr. Beastly x2.

And I have to agree, Brightheart never sounded right without Billie Mae Richards' voice.

Also, the Cousins' really got it bad if you think about it. When they relaunched the bears, they had a series of DTV movies to go with them. When the Cousins were relaunched, they didn't get anything, and were pulled due to lack of sales. How the hell did they expect to sell them without advertising?
